Visual Storytelling  & Ancestral Roots workshop     TBA

          Picture
Old photos like this one and all of the stories I heard about my ancestor's life was a integral part of my
photographic and literary development as a small child.  I always listened closely to all of the tales my ancestors
told.  Some true, some woven like the cloth they embroidered, some stories exaggerated and told to capture
a young child's vivid imagination. If enough family members told the story, we made it fact!  :)
In the true spirit of Italian artistry, my family lives on deep inside of my soul.

My maternal Neapolitan Grandmother Antonia Antonetta Juliana Matera-Diorato was born Sept 8, 1899
in a small village in the Province of Compania, Naples, Italy.  She is in black velvet, third person from the
left.  This was shot in the sewing factory where she toiled with other immigrant women doing "piece work".
She worked long hours and us grandchildren would run up to meet her and carry her bags of sewing home from
the sweatshop.  Grandma was a hard working contadina, with a zest for life, a fun loving spirit, and was most definetly
the matriarch of our family as she lost my grandpa Miguel at a young age.
Mille Grazie Grandma for watching over all of us!  Con amore, Francesca, your youngest granddaughter
