In Loving Memory of My Pup "Sorena"

I rescued my pup Sorena 16 years ago in December, 1993. She was in the vet hospital with a broken leg and had been abused.  They nicknamed her"Sweetie" because of her personality. I looked in her eyes and saw her intelligence immediately.
She had a beautiful black shepherd mask with dark eyes that looked
like she was wearing mascara :).  She was a beauty!
She came home with me that day with her orange cast at 3 months of age. She was a special Christmas gift and early birthday present for that first Christmas and all the others to follow.
With her her leg casted, she ran through my house, chewing everything in sight,  and her cast was left torn and tattered.
I didn't know what I was getting myself into with her, a wild, independent spirit who liked to chase my cat, and rough house it with dog next door.  She loved to run in circles, be chased, fetch her ball non-stop, and play  tug of war with me.  She also had a large appetite for table food and vegetables.  As a small puppy, I  brought her to Lake Chabot and coaxed her into learning how to swim.
She was afraid  at first but then she loved her ball so much she went in after it.  A avid swimmer was born.  She
spent many years swimming at the marina having a lot of joy, endlessly retrieving sticks and tennis balls.

Sorena could also be very mischievous, escaping and hiding in places and me frantically searching for her.  I called her
"Houdini"the magican for disappearing. She always seemed to be  scouting for adventure and garbage. She loved to play with other dogs and found playmates everywhere we lived.

She also loved to play with her soccer balls and footballs, ripping them up with a great gusto. She would
chase me on the basketball court, jumping at my shoulders, nipping me to give her the ball.
She had a deep, loud bark so she was a good protector of my homes and a very good watch dog.  She helped me walk at times
and pulled me up hills and steadied me.  She was a true service dog and  a  help to me.
She kept be safe and warm, flashing me her smile. Yes, she had a smile!   I called her my little charmer, little flirt!
We had a long and happy 16 years together until that old injury of her leg came back to disable her walking and getting up on her own.   The last year of her life was spent struggling to walk, dependent on me for a lift.  Her spirit
to live was strong to the end but I could see her quality of life was diminished, so I would have to say goodbye.

I  can only be grateful for my good fortune to have a such a beautiful dog for a companion for all these years.
She's been with me through good times and bad.  She has been a comfort and always brought a smile to my face
when I watched her swim effortlessly.

I will miss my pup Sorena terribly and I know she rests in peace with my other family members and friends.

With all my love dog baby,
          your Mommy Fran
